What kind of crayola markers are used for the dry clay?

Asked by: Peetah
Denny loves colorful questions! Decorating your sculpture made with Crayola Air-Dry Clay with markers will not give a great result, especially if you are trying to color a large area of the clay. Instead, my pack suggests using Crayola Tempera, Acrylic, or Watercolor Paints once the piece has dried. Hope this helps!

Can you heat the clay in an oven at 200 degrees to expedite the drying time?

Asked by: Rsauter13
Denny loves colorful questions! Crayola Air-Dry Clay is designed to air-dry. My pack tells me that exposing the clay to high heat sources may cause drying out, cracking, and browning. I wouldn't want your sculpture made with Air-Dry Clay to get ruined, so it's best to allow it to air-dry. Hope this helps!

What is the coldest temperature I can store my sealed container of air dry clay?

Asked by: Sgolloub
Denny has the details! Most Crayola products should be stored in temperatures between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. However, my pack has informed me that exposing Crayola Air-Dry Clay to freezing temperatures does not impair its working properties and it can be used after thawing. Hope this helps!

What kind of paint can I use? And can I use a glaze of some sort after , if so what kind?

Asked by: Delia 2022
Denny here and I've got you covered! Once the Crayola Air-Dry Clay is thoroughly dry, which generally takes 24 hours to dry to the touch and 72 hours to dry completely, you may paint the dry clay with tempera, acrylic or watercolor paints. Air-dry clay can also be sealed once completely dry with an acrylic varnish. We suggest testing the compatibility of the varnish before applying it to a finished piece. If you need further assistance with your colorful masterpieces, please give the Colorful Care Team a call at 1-800-CRAYOLA or visit the art techniques section on our website. Be sure to tell them Denny sent you!

What's the best kind of paint to use once the clay is dry?

Asked by: Mel C
Denny here & I've got the decorating tips for you! Once the Crayola Air-Dry Clay is thoroughly dry, your masterpieces can be painted with tempera, acrylic or watercolor paint. Permanent pigment-based markers work well for writing words on clay. To add a bit of sparkle, try glitter glue. Hope this helps!

Air bake clay- if I place it in a tiny terracotta pot will it adhere to the pot after it is dry? If not will I be able to glue the dried clay into the pot? And can I glue objects to it as well after the clay dries, such as tiny stones, glitter, moss, etc?

Asked by: Pam24
Denny here. I've checked with my pack and here's the scoop. The Crayola Air-Dry Clay can be glued onto the terra cotta pot once it has fully dried, which takes about 72 hours of air drying. It should never be fired in a kiln or oven to dry. Fully dried pieces of air-dry clay can be sealed with an acrylic varnish, but they are not waterproof. We recommend displaying the artwork indoors. Yes, you can decorate your fully-dried pieces with a variety of embellishments. We recommend using an adhesive, such as white school glue, Crazy Glue or Gorilla Glue, to secure the decorations and to glue the piece of art to the terra cotta pot. I hope this helps. For additional tips give our Colorful Care Team a call at 1-800-CRAYOLA. Be sure to tell them Denny sent you!
